Go right on ahead and hate me
Mood:  cheeky
Topic: Bitchy rants

This is an anti-review. There is a movie that is getting a lot of promo play right now that I do not want to watch. I will be very selective of how I describe it, because I don't want to see a banner ad for it either. Basically I want to avoid this movie entirely if at all possible - seeing the commercials is enough. This move is about a particular disaster - that should tell you enough.

Why don't I want to watch this movie? Because I already know that there is gonna be a bunch of bullshit 'If you don't see and love this movie and buy it on DVD and talk constantly about it and how patriotic it makes you feel, then you hate America!' type statements floating around because of it. I imagine there will be post-viewing interviews with people crying their eyes out and talking about how much it reaffirmed their faith and how badly they need to go put a flagpole up in their yard. Oy...

Hell, I think I just let some words slip that'll guarantee that fek movie will end up on the banner ad. Whatever...

Look, I'm well aware of how important the disaster in question was and still is to people. I'm just tired of a select group of people who hold so much of the power (money) in this country using it as a way to keep hold of that power. Honestly, I think that is disgusting, and this movie is just going to be another dose of fuel on that fire.

It reminds me so much of Luanne Platter from King of the Hill. There are times when I have to change the channel from that show because it's another one where she acts stupid and whines and gets on my fucking nerves. But it isn't her fault that she's stupid easily led and gets into stupid situations - it's the fault of the selfish people who manipulate her simple trusting nature. She wants to be and do good, and her idea of good is programmed into her to a point where she doesn't have to think about it.

Yeah, I know - I probably just pissed someone off with that not-so-veiled insult. I'm sorry you feel that way. I have no problem with any of you monotheists (whatever flavor you think is the 'only one'), but it gets a bit tiresome when you say or do something that is casually insulting to those of us who don't share your particular spiritual view, and then you pull the whole 'Well I have to tolerate your religion, so you better tolerate mine!' attitude. Hey, guess what? Monotheists have been dominating and pushing people around (not to mention killing, enslavement and outright mind control) for quite a long time and getting into all sorts of messy wars over what is a silly disagreement of translation and personal preference. I have yet to be intolerant of all that, despite the fact that it seems pretty fucking insane to me. All I'm saying here is to accept that there is a different point of view and those who have it do not need to be cured, converted, killed or helped as long as they are happy and not fucking with other people.

Okay, rant-within-a-rant over with - nevermind that bitchy segueway. (It's a topic I try very hard not to go off about on here because really, it's pointless.) I'm not watching or buying that movie, and now that I've gotten this out of my system I don't want to talk about it anymore either.
