First off I want to open with a warning - to those of you know know me well enough there will be a shocking phrase somewhere down in the text below. Make sure you are sitting down (which you should be if you are at the computer reading, you freak) because you may actually faint in astonishment.

Running amok in Clovis...

Needed to break in a new topic
Mood:  accident prone
Topic: Born into it
I am a bad uncle. Very bad.

See, one of my nieces has already called and sent a letter asking when I'll be going out to Cali. I haven't told anyone there yet, but I will soon. I already know that I'll be getting a big sister speech about how I won't be stepping off the plane and directly into the front yard.

But that's not it. See, I was supposed to try and maybe be out there for said niece's b-day party deal. Only like a total dumbshit I forgot to consider that date when the plane tickets were bought. Oh yeah, and I don't actually know what the date is. I'm terrible about such things - and I can't find the picture that has her birthday written on the back.

I know, I know - I could solve this non-problem by picking up the phone and asking. It's a bit late for that now, since the tickets are bought. Also, it kinda gives it away that I'm a thoughtless clod when I have to ask when said birthday is. So now I'm just gonna have to keep my fingers crossed that everything just magically coincides all on its own (which it won't, I'm sure) and I can pretend that I planned it that way all along.

Very bad uncle.

One reason why my fat head is out of control
Mood:  rushed
Topic: It's all about me
The madness has started spiraling out of control, and I'm not even in Cali yet. Already I've got 4 separate factions of people willing to throw down and get all crazy over who gets to have me first, most, and NOW NOW NOW. And how many people do you have fighting over you, huh? I'm already a raging egomaniac as it is people, I don't know why you insist on feeding the beast.

But seriously, it is indeed a mad scramble for me to get to see as many people as possible on my annual jaunt out, and to do as much as possible as well. And believe me, the doing part is a big thing for me because I'm not really all that motivated unless I've got someone doing to motivating for me. Plus, having to cram all manner of activity into weekdays tends to cramp some people's plans.

The funny thing to me is how every year I do actually worry whether or not the Cali/Faire thing is going to work out, and despite that nonsense (you'd think I'd have learned by now...) I still manage to get out there every year. Plans are already evolving their way into place. I've got passage booked, I've got a pick-up arranged, I've even got my first week planned out for me. One thing I've learned by now is to not bother actually setting any real plans in stone because they seem to grow just fine on their own organically.

Ahhhh, it's a curse being so popular.

After you die...
Parallel Universe

After death, you will continue to exist as if nothing has ever happened. You will continue to be yourself, but because you are in a parallel universe, some things will be different. You may not have married the same person, you might live in a different spot, but you will be the same person underneath it all and you will continue your life unaware that you ever died.

Who woulda thought they'd try using video games as some sort of legit therapy for ADHD? I have no idea if it would work, but I just love kooky ideas.

Actually, the thing that really struck me was this:

People with these disorders experience "constant frustration,"

Hmmmm... makes me wonder sometimes because that's how I felt almost my entire schoolbound life. Still feel that way often enough, in fact. Unfortunately I really suck at video games now, so I guess there's no point in trying to get a prescription for Mortal Kombat or anything like that.

Bravo at the end and at the beginning
Mood:  on fire
Topic: Brain candy
Project Runway's fashion show finale was gorgeous. The hubby and I were both undecided all the way to the final call out. I thought it was really cool that all 3 of them got good marks on their last minute 13th outfit. Now see, the hubby absolutely insisted that we write our votes down before we heard the judges say anything. I knew I couldn't make any observations until after I saw their lines on the runway, but even after that I just... dammit they were all good, and they each had some particular flaw.

He picked Santino, I picked Chloe. But at the end, when it was just Daniel and Chloe I wasn't so sure. I had a feeling they might give it to Daniel just because he's right at the beginning, and this is such a perfect chance for him to bloom into a fantastic designer. I have to admit I'm glad that Daniel was the favorite (they showed a phone poll, with prizes of course), and I think that Santino's line was wonderful.

If you care who won, chances are you already know. In any case, right after that starts up ep 1 of Top Chef. Now I love me some Iron Chef America so this show has got to be right up my alley. I know I'll likely miss big chunks of it as it runs during faire time, but Bravo does love to repeat the hell out of their shows.

I do think it's fantastic that they got rid of the guy that I fully expected would be kept around for color. I have a feeling that if he stayed around I'd end up disliking him. Being the 1st ep I haven't warmed up to any particular character there yet, but I see a few potential ones in there for some interesting TV action.

On my way to get the mail today I noticed that the apricot tree is popping some blooms. Little striped critters were buzzing all over the small clusters of opening flowers, and I could catch just the faintest hint of their scent myself. We never really did get a real winter. I don't know if we will get a late freeze or not. One thing though, I hope if there is any late winterish action to happen, I want it to happen after I am outta here. I've never fully ditched a winter before.

There were no builders hammering away on the house today, which was a surprise. We've gotten the eaves done, and they're scraping and painting windows now. After that I believe these guys will be gluing and screwing storm windows on. If they show up tomorrow I may jaunt off to Clovis. New people make me twitchy.

But lately I've been too tired to really do anything. I can't imagine why... I've got a shopping list though, and the usual random tasks. If I get the house to myself again tomorrow I may play domestic instead.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah...

Springing
Mood:  happy
Topic: Life in Texas
We pruned trees this weekend. A bit more work than I'd thought it would be when we discussed it all winter. (Instead of actually getting off our asses and doing it, I mean.) But everything out there looks good now.

We didn't get a winter this year. Maybe a couple isolated incidents, but no real season, ya know? If we don't get some sort of out-of-nowhere winter crash course coming around then things could be pretty fertile around here soon. Since I gotta be Californicating by April, the hubby and I are going to have to till, hill and plant us up a garden soon.

Oy and speaking of fertile - Bubble, the only girl kitty we got, is rolling around, mewling and presenting. Poor horny little beast! I hope that the dogs stay away from her, because that can get fights started.

The card urge struck again, which is grand. It's nice to snuggle up and watch mindless TV, but sometimes I actually like to think. The hubby wupped my ass at Mille Bornes and Skip-Bo but I came back when we played Canasta. Have we been together long enough to be an old married couple? They actually missed us at the chinese joint in town, cuz we hadn't been there in 2 weeks.

Pretty much the usual day-to-day around here. But tax season'll do that.
